Aeolian Lines
James Diewald, N. D. Doberneck, Jon Ford, Michael FrederickAeolian Lines explores layered readings of periodic order over aperiodic surface articulation. Two triangular panels A and B rotate to produce a doubly curved envelope array, accommodated by variations in seam width. The project’s title refers to the wind’s erosive or constructive action on the earth’s surface, typically in arid landscapes. This behavior and its resulting surface articulation informs the project’s panel morphology and aggregation logic. The panel’s curving ripples generate aperiodic field linework to intensify and articulate the project’s regular array of tiles.
