P_Urples explores the mesmerizing effects of color applied to textured panels as a post processing technique. Its surface is a highly articulated field of convex ovoids surrounded by a rim and oriented in subtly different directions, all which visually cohere as a soft, lush carpet. The frequency and scale of ovoids generates a loose matrix of valleys, which includes the seams between panels. Like Intestines + Roses, the field geometry multiplies seam conditions, integrating them into panel surface morphology. A subtly convex surface expansion modulates the field at the tile-grouping scale. In postprocessing, color applied to the panels using a series of paint masks disguises the tessellation logic and heightens the field’s irregularity.
